Hypnosis for Migraine Headaches

relaxingThe idea of migraine hypnotherapy might seem like a contradiction in terms. How does your subconscious affect the physical nature of your body? How does the mind control pain? Often a common over the counter pill does the trick when it comes to headaches. Migraines, however, are much more than a mere headache.

Migraines are incapacitating, as anyone who has ever suffered from one will tell you. There are medications and other forms of treatment for migraines but in spite of these ways of dealing with migraines, some people are out of commission days due to this dreadful headache. To understand why hypnosis is one of the most successful treatments for migraines it is helpful to understand the nature of migraines.

Migraines are triggered by changes in your body that can be set off by stress, medications, certain foods, poor sleep patterns, and other factors that vary from individual to individual. The symptoms include debilitating pain. This can include nausea and vomiting which may be the body’s reaction to the pain that seems to throb throughout the entire body. Light can also negatively affect migraine sufferers and they often need to lie still in the dark to alleviate the discomfort.

Since migraines can last for days and since they often seem impervious to pain medications, it is imperative that a faster and more effective treatment be utilized. Migraine hypnosis has been studied and shown to be highly effective – more than three times the people treated with hypnosis stopped having migraines than those who stopped having migraines after being given the prescription medication prochlorperazine.

Prochlorperazine is used for treating mental and emotional disorders, such as psychotic disorders including schizophrenia. It controls severe nausea and vomiting and moderate to severe pain. Basically it covers the painful side effects of a migraine. Speaking of side effects, the side effects of prochlorperazine include body and facial tics.

Hypnosis on the other hand does not have side effects. It is also a lot easier on your body than any heavy-duty medications. The relaxation techniques included in migraine hypnosis work on the stress factor and other such triggers. Hypnosis can help with techniques that circumvent your usual migraine inducing elements.

Besides being less expensive and less dangerous than medication, migraine hypnosis is more effective. It reaches into your subconscious and works on helping you develop ways of getting around the stress and habits that cause migraines. If you suffer from migraine headaches, you owe it to yourself to try migraine hypnotherapy.

How to Effectively Use Self-Hypnosis to Stop Smoking

Certain studies have discovered that people who used self-hypnosis to help them quit smoking enjoyed better results than those who chose to quit smoking on their own. These studies also predicted more positive outcomes for those who are receiving emotional support from their loved ones at home. If you are serious about quitting smoking, why not take a chance on self-hypnosis?

Tips on Using Self-Hypnosis to Help You Stop Smoking

Start by understanding why smoking is bad for your health. Unlike eating chocolates or drinking liquor, both of which have certain benefits to offer, there is nothing healthy whatsoever about smoking.

When you inhale or swallow nicotine inside you, it pollutes and damages not only your lungs but the rest of your respiratory system and other parts of the body as well. It only gets worse and worse as you smoke more and more. Smoking will cause you to suffer from heart complications and other serious conditions, all of which can be life-threatening.

Those are not only the bad effects of smoking. When you smoke, you also suffer from bad breath, which could make it harder for you to befriend other people since they’ll be too busy avoiding inhaling your breath to have time to tell you their names. Smoking can also cause you to have yellow teeth, something that could be a definite turn-off for your dates. The smell of smoke also clings to your clothes, your car’s carpets, as well as your things.

When you smoke, you become less healthy, making it harder for you to keep up with people in your age when they play sports or do something physical. Smoking is also a very costly habit to have, depending on how much you smoke each day. Insurance policies also become more expensive to acquire if you’re smoking.

Lastly, the fact that you’re smoking also endangers people in your vicinity. Secondhand smoke also has the power to ruin people’s health, and you should feel guilty for making people around you unhealthy when they don’t deserve to be.

Knowing and understanding the extent of damage that smoking can cause to you and your loved ones is very important and integral to the effectiveness of self-hypnosis. Now that you know just how bad smoking is for your health, you’re in the right frame of mind to welcome the suggestions you’ve made by self-hypnosis.

Start by telling yourself that you’re going to stop smoking because you know it’s bad for you. You’re going to stop smoking because you don’t want to hurt other people anymore.

Tell yourself as well that you are going to stop smoking right here and right now. You won’t ever pick another cigarette stick anymore. Tell yourself that the mere idea or thought of smoking makes you feel ill.

In your self-hypnosis session or recording, tell yourself that you don’t find quitting smoking difficult. Instead, you find it very easy and not at all challenging because you know it’s the right thing to do. Emphasize the easy and right parts.

Repeat or listen to these statements everyday as you go to sleep and upon waking up. Create an image in your mind in which you’re healthier, happier, and better looking because you’ve succeeded in quitting smoking.

If you have other psychological and emotional reasons for smoking, use self-hypnosis to eliminate all of them from your mindset. Tell yourself that you don’t need smoking to entertain yourself, forget your problems, or reduce your stress levels. Tell yourself that you can do all those and more without the help and use of smoking.

Complementary Tools for Self-Hypnosis for Stopping Yourself from Smoking
Of course, self-hypnosis can’t work by itself in helping you quit smoking. You should do other things to expedite the process.

Exercise more. Use exercising as a response to every time you wish to smoke. Find other outlets whenever your body starts to crave for nicotine.

Join support groups because you’ll find it easier to speak with them about your problems since all of you share the same problems with smoking.

And last but not the least, do not hesitate to accept the help and support from your loved ones. Don’t be proud and resist what they’re offering because you need what they’re giving you, and your loved ones will also feel better if you let them help you.

Hypnosis For Pain Control in Child Birth

As a hypnotherapist I often get asked can hypnosis really help with pain control. This question is usually asked by a pregnant mum to be. More and more women these days are choosing to have their children by caesarian and so avoid the pain of natural labor. I find myself wondering if all these women would still do so if they knew how helpful hypnosis can be in relation to pain control and also how easy it is to learn.

Scientific research has over the last few years proven the benefits of hypnosis in pain control. In a Meta analysis of the use of hypnosis for pain control the result showed that surgical patients receiving hypnotherapy had better outcomes than 89% of controls. Not only that, the results also showed that people benefitted equally well irrespective of whether the hypnosis was a recorded session or an individual 1:1 live session. (Montgomery GH, David D, Winkel G, Silverstein JH, Bovbjerg DH. “The effectiveness of adjunctive hypnosis with surgical patients: A meta-analysis” Anesth Analg 2002 Jun;94(6):1639-45)

Clinical studies have shown that women in both first and second stages of labor who use hypnosis in preparation for the birth have an easier time than those in a control group. For example in one published study the hypnosis group spent an average time of 6.4 hours in the first stage as opposed to 9.3 hours in the control group, whilst they spent 37 minutes in the second stage as opposed to 50 minutes. In addition to this, the use of analgesic agents was significantly reduced in the hypnotized groups as opposed to the control groups.

It is great to see that the medical profession is now performing more research into holistic methods of pain control. Years ago people in pain only had access to natural remedies. As modern drugs have become more and more readily available, most people, particularly in the Western world, have turned a blind eye to the natural remedies used previously. As time passes it is becoming ever more obvious that there is still a place for natural remedies in medicine.

Hypnosis is in itself a state of relaxation, which is both normal and natural, and whilst you are in hypnosis you have access to your subconscious mind – the part that knows just what to do and how to do it, the part that acts automatically and spontaneously. Hypnosis allows contact with your inner mind; it allows communication with deep physiological functions.

Did you know that every thought you have has the ability to trigger off neurotransmitters in your brain which send messages to every cell in your organism? Relaxation with the help of hypnosis is just the first step. You can then utilize powerful NLP and hypnotic techniques to visualize the birth of your baby as the most comfortable, smooth and successful birth possible. Your imagination is limitless. It has no boundaries. A picture is worth a thousand words and a metaphor is worth a million. Thus the creative use of metaphorical language on hypnosis downloads for pain control in child birth is incredibly powerful.

What is great is that this is perfectly natural and it has been proven to be successful. Not only that, research has also proven that a hypnosis recording is just as effective as an individual session with a hypnotherapist. And so every mum to be can learn to use hypnosis for pain control in the comfort of her own home simply by using a hypnosis download.
