Some Thoughts On Hypnosis And Weight Loss

.

For as long as I care to remember, I have been concerned about my weight in particular, and my overall health in general. My partner pokes fun at me occasionally about this, especially if I am trying to get back on track with a seriously healthy eating regime.

This is usually the case after some period of over indulgence, like right now, a few short weeks after Christmas and New Year. He says he loves me the way I am, and tells me not to be so obsessive about reading food labels, eating low fat foods, and so on, and so on. If I am like that, some of it is his fault. Would you believe that he actually bought me four, yes four, boxes of chocolates over Christmas. He knows that I am a total chocoholic,(as are many women),and simply cannot resist them. He gets a perverse pleasure from watching me agonise over the temptation, and usually not succeeding.

He has given up cigars totally for the last three months, and says that this is his way of getting his own back. He teases me by saying that he has more willpower than I have! In normal times I simply refuse to have anything made with chocolate in the house, as I know that I will give in to temptation otherwise, and sometimes he takes advantage of my weakness!

This may all be mildly amusing, but controlling your weight and avoiding weight gain as you get older, are vitally important ways to help prevent a host of weight-related health problems. Indeed, if you are more than 20 pounds over your ideal weight, you are at far greater risk for a considerable number of potentially deadly conditions.

These can include diabetes, high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, endometrial cancer, obstructive sleep apnea, and breast cancer. In addition, and equally worrying,is the fact that most people who are overweight tend to avoid exercise, and that that same avoidance, in turn simply adds to the toll paid for those extra pounds. If you have a sedentary lifestyle and are overweight, you are at a higher risk of cardiovascular disease and other health problems. Moreover, if you already have a medical condition such as high cholesterol, being overweight puts you at a higher risk for complications.

The good news is, that even modest amounts of weight loss can improve your health significantly. The loss of 10% of your body weight can help to reduce blood pressure, high cholesterol, triglyceride, and high blood sugar levels. Nowadays, there are many procedures that can contribute to helping people lose weight effectively.

One of the better known and better promoted procedures in helping weight loss, is through the means of hypnosis!

However, many misconceptions have arisen with regard to the application of hypnosis as a means of losing weight. As it does not involve drugs, or any kinds of medications or surgery, many people tend to think that losing weight through hypnosis seems to be one of the safest weight loss programs. In order to understand more about hypnosis and its effects on losing weight, here is a list of some facts that will give you an insight into what it can do to your body weight.

1 – Hypnosis can be an imminently risky affair if not done properly, and not applied by people who are highly trained in the real art of hypnosis. Even if many people tend to think that hypnosis will not pose an imminent danger to their health, it is still important to know that the person who will do the procedure is skilled enough, and that he or she knows what factors to consider before carrying out the procedures.

2 – Hypnosis by itself cannot eliminate excess fat from the body, and therefore make somebody lose weight as a result of that alone. The majority of health experts contend that hypnosis should only be a part of a whole assimilated process, and should never be used as the sole weight loss procedure.
Moreover, one session of hypnosis will only have very minimal results on an individual’s weight. When losing weight, hypnosis matched with psychotherapy will be more effective than hypnosis alone. This is because hypnosis is only a means of deeply relaxing the mind, and in which one can still be in control of his or her own body.

3 – Hypnosis is one way of getting into the subliminal state of the individual. When an individual is in the “hypnotic stage,” the body is more responsive to suggestions because of its intensified state of concentration. However, this does not necessarily mean that through hypnosis, one can effectively “reprogram” the mind of an individual. In reality hypnosis ranges from a trouble-free relaxation condition, to a proper initiation, all of which is carried out by a professional hypnotist. It should not therefore be seen as a magical solution to remedy every ailment, including weight loss!

To narrow it down, people should be more aware that hypnosis is not in itself a sole effective process in losing weight, but is more the facilitator of various treatment techniques. Therefore, it should be combined with other weight loss management programs in order to be effective in helping people lose excess weight. If it is seen as a potential help rather than the total solution, people will be able to lose more weight and have a more relaxed and refreshed state of mind in accomplishing their goals.

To quote the well known phrase, healthy mind, healthy body!
